Spotlight on Artist: Jackson
Pollock

Pollock at Work |
Now there’s a name I bet you’ve
heard before. Pollock was on of the leaders of abstract expressionism, an art movement
which happened in New York between 1947 and 1960. Pollock’s famous drip paintings are
structurally indebted to cubism. How? Even without explicit representation, his imagery
has a sense of gesture as fragmentary configuration, contours of things that are
surrounded then dissolved and shifted forward and back in space. |
| His art was an
engagement of line with space — an interpenetration. Studying his work was pivotal in
my own artistic progression from representational to abstract paintings. He brought
a truly fresh spirit to painting which inspired and still inspires many artists even
today. |
